Where the time is being lost
The win-day session set every consistency record
26 Jul S5 โ the actual Grand Prix he won โ is now the record holder across the board: avg-best gap 0.135s (was 0.552s), std dev 0.109s (was 0.365s), and best-3-vs-worst-3 just 0.245s (was 0.808s). His most controlled driving of the season happened in the race he actually won. That's not a coincidence worth ignoring.
Sub-20.5s laps: 13 now, up from 8
9 Aug S3 added 5 more sub-20.5s laps โ the second-best single session for it, behind only 12 Jul S2's 6. But sub-20.2s is stuck at 3 laps total, all from before 12 Jul. Getting sustained pace in the 20.3โ20.5s band (like 9 Aug S3) is step one; converting some of those into sub-20.2s is the next unlock.
Warm-up is excellent on good days, rough on others
26 Jul S5's opening lap was just 0.138s off his best โ essentially perfect. But the August sessions have been inconsistent: 2 Aug S4 and 9 Aug S1 both had opening laps 5โ10s off the pace. The good days show it's solvable; it's not yet the default.
New PB: 19.576s โ a 0.271s jump, his biggest single leap yet
6 Sep: a new outright personal best of 19.576s, smashing the 23 Aug record (19.847s) by more than a quarter of a second โ his largest single-session improvement since the original sub-20 breakthrough. Came in an 18-lap session with 8 laps under 20 seconds, in a six-driver field.
Kart 6 has now produced back-to-back personal bests
Both of his last two PBs โ 19.847s on 23 Aug and 19.576s on 6 Sep โ came in Kart 6. Across his 5 recorded outings in Kart 6 this season: 21.302 (2 Aug) โ 20.322 (3 Aug) โ 19.847 (23 Aug) โ 20.156 (6 Sep S1) โ 19.576 (6 Sep S2, PB). Not perfectly linear โ the 6 Sep opener was a step back before the record fell in the very next session โ but the overall trend and the two PBs are hard to ignore. Worth specifically requesting this kart where possible.
New PB: 19.847s โ but the "last session" theory just took a hit
23 Aug: a new outright personal best of 19.847s, beating the 19 Aug record by 0.045s โ in his longest, most consistent session of the day (22 laps). But this time it came in session 3 of 4, not the last one, breaking the pattern seen on 26 Jul, 10 Aug and 19 Aug. The honest read: a long, well-run session matters more than specifically being "last" โ three coincidences aren't a law.
Cracked the 19s barrier โ 19.919s, first sub-20 lap ever
10 Aug: a new personal best of 19.919s, beating the old 20.164s best by 0.245s and moving into a whole new second bracket. He beat his own running best 5 separate times inside that one session (20.359 โ 20.218 โ 20.175 โ 19.952 โ 19.919) โ not a fluke lap, a session that kept getting better.
Sub-20.2s laps nearly quadrupled in one day
Total sub-20.2s laps across the whole season: 3 before 10 Aug, 11 after โ 10 Aug alone added 8 across its three sessions. Sub-20.5s laps: 31 total now. This wasn't a single good lap, it was a step change in sustained pace.
Gap to Henry Clark's pace is narrowing
Henry Clark's best single-session average is 19.955s (26 Jul S2). Buckley's best is now 20.782s (26 Jul S5) โ a 0.83s gap, down from roughly 1s a few weeks ago. Same race day, two different personal bests.
The Nojus Sadauskas rivalry is a genuine coin flip
Across 18 shared race sessions since 12 Jul, Buckley's been faster in 8, Nojus in 10 โ the closest, most competitive rivalry on the board. 19 Aug alone was 2 wins each way and one loss by just 0.008s. This is the rival most worth targeting โ the gap is real but small, not aspirational.
Two wins, two different kinds of session
26 Jul's win came off the most consistent session of the season. 9 Aug's win came off a solid but unremarkable 20.994s best with normal mid-pack consistency (std dev 0.501s). Good results don't require a perfect session โ worth remembering on the average days.
Things to try next session
Chase the 26 Jul S5 feeling, not just the lap time
That session proved the ceiling: sub-0.2s std dev, near-zero warm-up gap. The target isn't a single fast lap anymore โ it's recreating that whole-session control on a normal Tuesday, not just on race day.
Fix the rough openers
2 Aug S4 (10.5s lap-1 gap) and 9 Aug S1 (4.7s) show the warm-up problem hasn't fully gone away. Treat lap 1 as deliberate practice every session, not just the ones that happen to click.
The PB came at the end of the day, not the start
Two earlier sessions (20.257s, then 20.172s) built up the pace before the 19.919s PB landed in the third and final session โ a proper progression through the day, not a lucky first lap. Across all three sessions: 8 laps under 20.2s and 18 under 20.5s in one day.
Carry this pace into the next race with a full field
19.919s came in a session against Bonnie rather than the usual competitive field. The next race day with Henry Clark, Stephan Vieira and the regular group is the real test of whether this new pace holds up under normal race pressure.
Session average record already broken โ new bar: 20.345s
10 Aug's practice averaged 20.559s (or 20.345s excluding the opening lap) โ beating the previous best-session-average record of 20.782s from 26 Jul S5. That's now the number to beat for "most complete session," not just fastest lap.
Keep uploading the data
The biggest gains came from understanding what the data showed between race days. Checking which lap was slowest and making one specific adjustment is worth more than any amount of general coaching.
